Their short legs and their curious nature mean that your home needs a few extra tweaks to keep them comfortable, safe, and (most importantly) entertained. Here’s how to set up a Corgi-friendly home that works for both of you and your little low rider.

Comfort and Accessibility

Corgis aren’t built for high jumps, but they love being close to you (prepare to have your personal space invaded), so they will try to take any obstacle to get you. Help them stay cozy and safe

• Furniture they can reach: Choose low-profile dog beds and pet-friendly couches with durable fabrics that stand up to shedding and muddy paws. Or alternatively:
  
• Ramps and steps: Get one of those dog steps/ramps and add them to furniture or stairs so they can get around easily without straining their joints. Especially helpful as they age or if they’re prone to mobility issues. Keep in mind: Your Corgi's back is long and their feet short, not a good combination for taking a lot of stairs daily. Try to minimize the daily amount of stairs your Corgi has to take to the lowest.

Example: My Corgi, Max, was always trying to jump onto the couch before I added a ramp. Now, he can just easily walk up and I don’t worry about his back anymore.

Safety First

Their curiosity can sometimes get them into trouble. Make your space safe by:

• Securing wires and small objects: Keep wires tucked away and remove items they could chew on or swallow, especially when they are young. Adult or older Corgis should have learned their lessons, but you never know with these ones.
  
• Using baby gates: Block off any off-limits areas you don't want to have your Corgi in (or his fur), like staircases, the kitchen, your bed, or whatever. Otherwise, they will definitely explore everything.
  
• Checking for hazards: Scan for toxic plants, unsecured trash cans, or open windows.

Example: One time Max got into the kitchen and found the trash...huge mess, I can tell you that. I switched to a pedal bin with a locking lid afterward. Problem solved.

Mental Stimulation

A bored Corgi is a mischievous Corgi. So keep their brain busy with:

• A dedicated play area: Stock it with chew toys, puzzle feeders, and interactive games.
• Rotating toys: Bring out different toys every week to keep them interested.
• Smart toys: Some toys dispense treats when they solve puzzles—perfect for keeping them engaged.

Example: Max’s favorite toy is a food puzzle that keeps him entertained for ages. Bonus: It slows down his eating too! But you have to be careful with the amount and quality of the treats. Corgi can get big really quickly since they don't really have a sense of satiety.

Safe Outdoor Exploration

If you’ve got outdoor space, make it Corgi-proof too for safe and fun playtime:

• Secure fencing: Keep it high enough to prevent jumps and gaps small enough to stop escapes.
• Shaded areas: Add shelter to protect them from sun or rain.
• Corgi-friendly plants: Stick to non-toxic greenery and create a digging zone to satisfy their instincts.

Example: Max loves his little digging corner in our garden. It keeps him busy and my flower beds intact!
